How to use the A320 calculator

Open the main calculator, select the A320-214 profile and enter gross weight and centre of gravity. Then select the departure runway or enter its length, elevation and slope manually. Add outside air temperature, QNH and wind before reviewing the estimated takeoff data.

Airport and METAR lookup can accelerate setup, but every imported value should be checked against the simulator. Runway direction matters because the same wind and slope produce different results on reciprocal runways.

What changes A320 V-speeds?

Weight is the main driver of the baseline speed estimate. Pressure altitude, temperature, flap configuration, wind and CG then modify the result. A heavier aircraft normally requires higher speeds, while the selected flap configuration changes the balance between lift, drag and runway performance.

V1, VR and V2 serve different purposes and should not be treated as interchangeable numbers. The tool preserves their logical order, but its values remain simulator estimates rather than certified Airbus performance data.

A320 FLEX temperature and runway margin

FLEX represents an assumed temperature used to request reduced takeoff thrust. A long dry runway, moderate weight and favourable weather generally leave more simulated FLEX margin. Short effective runway length, tailwind, contamination, uphill slope, high elevation or anti-ice use reduce that margin.

If conditions no longer support the modelled reduced-thrust margin, the result changes to TOGA. That indication does not independently prove that the runway is suitable; it only means the simplified model is no longer offering FLEX.

Use the result in your simulator

Copy the displayed speeds, flap/THS entry and FLEX value into the aircraft only after checking that the selected aircraft variant and units match your add-on. Recalculate whenever runway, takeoff intersection, weather, weight or configuration changes.
